Anne McLellan, PC OC AOE and Chancellor Emeritus Ralph Young, AOE to officially break ground on the Diwan.

In October, the Board of Governors gave the green light to begin construction on the Diwan at the Aga Khan Garden. Plans are underway to start the project in early 2021, with the Diwan scheduled to open in the summer of 2022.

The Diwan is an integral component of the Aga Khan Garden at the UAlberta Botanic Garden. Designed to be a warm and welcoming gathering place, it will also serve as a key focal point for visitors, and the place where cultural interaction and understanding is fostered and taught.  The facility will include space for concerts, lectures, exhibits and events, with numerous meeting rooms, catering facilities and an elevator for easy access to the roof-top balcony.

Generous support from alumni and friends made the Diwan possible, with $5.5M raised in gifts and pledges. Donors to the Diwan were sent this video, thanking them for their support and providing an update on the project.
