General Volunteer Opportunities


Docents

Position runs May 1 through fall 2019
Training dates (required): April 6 & 13, 2019

Availability: May through October, weekends and some weekdays. These positions require a commitment of  one to three shifts per week. Shifts are four hours long.

If you enjoy working with people in a beautiful outdoor environment, consider applying to be a docent. Volunteer docents lead engaging, informative tours of the Aga Khan Garden and the Kurimoto Japanese Garden. Docents are a friendly point of contact for Garden visitors, and also answer general questions about the U of A Botanic Garden as a whole.

Previous volunteer experience is an asset. Applicants should be experienced and comfortable with public speaking. Tours take place outdoors in many weather conditions; docents will need to work outside on their feet for periods of approximately one hour at a time. Training is provided.

Index Seminum Administrator

Position runs April 2019 - April 2020

1-2 weekdays, approximately 8:30 am - 4 pm

Are you interested in the study and conservation of native plant specimen? Consider applying for the Index Seminum Administrator volunteer position at the U of A Botanic Garden. Spend time at the garden under the guidance of our trained horticulturists. Volunteer will assist with annual Index seminum program and processes, such as managing mailing out of  index semnium listings, coordinating seed packets of UABG offerings and processing orders from other gardens. You will be contributing to the botanic garden as seeds are offered to botanical gardens around the world. Computer, and organizational skills are an asset, orientation and training is provided.
