Butterfly Day

Come to the Garden to celebrate the all-important pollinator! The Alberta Lepidopterist Guild will be here with a display and identification table, and they’ll be leading guided walks through the Garden to catch and identify butterflies (limited capacity for guided walks,  please sign up when you register for admission). The delightful Royal Pollinator Court will also be in attendance – see if you can spot Princess Monarch, Queen Bee and Baron Beetle. Kids and grownups are encouraged to add to the fun by wearing their own butterfly and insect costumes.

Butterfly Day takes place during the annual Edmonton BiodiverCity Challenge. The Garden is a great place to capture photos of birds, plants, mammals, moss, lichen, mushrooms and insects, and contribute to citizen science! Bring your camera, document the amazing biodiversity that can be found at the Garden, and upload it to contribute to a “BioBlitz” using a citizen science app from the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute. Learn more about the BiodiverCity Challenge, and how you can aid in the understanding of species and biodiversity in our region.

Note:  Activities are planned with safety in mind. However, all activities are subject to changing health restrictions and may be cancelled.

Activities are free with regular admission to the Garden.
Advance registration required for admission.
