The Twilight Picnic Experience

Give a Twilight Picnic this holiday season!

This is a picnic experience designed to make beautiful memories. Is it time to mark a special anniversary, celebrate a friendship, surprise someone you care about, or plan to reconnect on a much-needed date night out?

The picnic experience for two includes an extraordinary gourmet picnic box, live entertainment, and a chance to sit back, slow down, relax and enjoy life in a beautiful garden.

Stroll through the peaceful grounds with glass of wine or local craft beer as the frogs begin to sing, the sun sets over the bridge in the Kurimoto Japanese Garden and lights reflect on the fountains in the Aga Khan Garden.  Let the sounds of live music wash over you as you nibble on your delicious picnic goodies.

Picnic boxes are filled with delicious local charcuterie, cheeses, fruits, breads, vegetables, sweet treats and more, adorned with fresh edible flowers. Boxes come in standard, vegetarian, vegan, hallal, gluten-free and child-friendly options.

You can embellish your experience with luxurious add-ons and other picnic essentials like blankets, flowers and personalized cards.  And if you have a special occasion to celebrate, let us know and we can help you customize your visit to create an unforgettable experience.

The Twilight Picnic Experience runs June through September.

Your Twilight Picnic Experience includes admission to the Garden for two people, live entertainment, sparkling water and a gourmet picnic box for two. Individual boxes and admissions can also be ordered.

Twilight Picnic FAQ’s

What about allergies?
Boxes are prepared without nuts. While we can accommodate most allergies, we cannot provide 100% guarantee as cross-contamination may exist in the facilities where some of the picnic foods are prepared.

Do you offer vegetarian / vegan / gluten-free / nut-free / halal / child-friendly choices?
Yes! You will be able to select vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free or halal choices when you order. A child-friendly picnic box is also available.

What’s in the box?
Your box will contain a beautiful assortment of savoury and sweet goodies (proteins, breads, dips, fresh seasonal fruit, vegetables, dessert and more). Offerings will change slightly with the seasons. Boxes, plates and utensils are made of sustainable, compostable materials.

Can I share a picnic box?
Current health regulations require that only people who live in the same household can share a box, so if members of your party are from different households, you can let us know and we’ll prepare separate boxes.

How many people can be in a picnic party?
Our picnic experience is designed with two people in mind. If you want to come with more people, safe physical distancing should be maintained between anyone who is not from the same household.

How long can we stay?
Picnic guests can arrive at the Garden anytime after 5 pm. Picnic box pickup is anytime between 5 and 8 pm. Picnic guests can stay and enjoy the Garden until it closes at 9 pm.

Where can I picnic?
You can picnic anywhere in the Garden, as long as you maintain a physical distance of at least 2 meters from other parties. Bar carts will be available in the Kurimoto Japanese Garden and the Aga Khan Garden.

Can I bring my own drinks?
Outside alcohol is not permitted. We include bottled mineral water with your picnic, and you can purchase wine, beer, cider or non-alcoholic fruit beverages to enjoy with your picnic. Alcohol can be consumed throughout the Garden.

Can I bring my own food and have a picnic?
Outside food is not permitted at the Garden, with the exception of bottled water and small snacks (eg. granola bar, apple). Bringing your own picnic is not permitted.

I want to celebrate a special occasion. Can you help?
We sure can! We can help you customize your picnic experience with special touches like personalized cards and flowers. If you want to surprise a special someone, we can even set up your picnic in advance. Or we can help you create a unique customized evening. Contact us to make special arrangements.

Is there anything I should bring?
To enjoy the Garden before or after your picnic, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Because it’s summer in Alberta, mosquito repellent is a good idea, as well as outerwear to be prepared for any kind of weather. You can bring your own picnic blanket or folding chairs, or purchase a picnic blanket with your order.

What is the cancellation policy?

Up to 9 am on the date of your picnic, if you need to cancel:

  • You can either reschedule to another date, or
  • arrange curbside pickup of your box the same day (includes admission passes for a future visit to the Garden).

After 9 am on the date of your picnic:

  • You can arrange for curbside pickup of your box on the same day (includes admission passes for a future visit to the Garden)
  • If, at 5 pm, there is a severe weather warning issued by Environment Canada, the Garden may cancel picnics. We will notify you by phone and you can get curbside pickup (with admission passes for a future visit), or reschedule to another date
  • If the weather becomes suddenly inclement during your picnic and you wish to leave, you can take your box home and we will give you admission passes for a future visit

There are no refunds for picnics.

Any rules I should know about?
You can help to keep the Garden a beautiful, special place by leaving your picnic area clean. Please check our Visitor Guidelines before you come. Important to remember: no pets, no smoking (of any kind), no sports equipment.
